We’re Hiring Software Technical Test Specialist – Domestic Payments

Our technology doesn’t serve ads or stream movies – it moves money, supports businesses, and underpins New Zealand’s economy.We’re looking for an experienced Software Technical Test Specialist to join our Payments Tribe, working on domestic payments systems that must be secure, resilient, and always available.This role is ideal for a senior test engineer who enjoys working close to the technology, cares deeply about quality, and wants to make a real impact on systems used by customers every day.What you’ll be working onYou’ll be part of a cross-functional, agile squad delivering and supporting ASB’s domestic payments capabilities for business and corporate customers.The work spans a mix of modern and established systems, complex integrations, and high throughput payment flows – where quality, performance and reliability really matter.You’ll play a key role in shaping how testing is done within the squad, with a strong focus on automation, performance testing and quality engineering rather than manual-only testing.Your responsibilities will include:

  • Reviewing requirements and technical designs with a quality first mindset
  • Defining and executing pragmatic, agile test strategies and test plans
  • Building, maintaining and evolving automated test frameworks (SpecFlow / ReqNRoll)
  • Designing and executing performance testing (e.g. LoadRunner, JMeter)
  • Testing across system, integration, API and end-to-end layers
  • Analysing and clearly communicating test results, risks and defects
  • Identifying issues within payment flows and advising on root cause and impact
  • Working closely with engineers, product owners and stakeholders to support end-to-end testing and release signoff
  • Acting as the voice of test engineering within the squad, lifting quality standards and practices

What you’ll bring to the role

  • Strong experience in test engineering, with a quality driven mindset
  • Hands-on experience testing payments systems or other high throughput, regulated platforms
  • Solid automation testing experience using SpecFlow or ReqNRoll
  • Proven capability across functional, system, integration, API, end-to-end and performance testing
  • Experience working with Azure DevOps and CI/CD pipelines
  • Comfort working in agile, cross-functional teams
  • Confidence mentoring others and influencing testing best practice
  • Experience defining test strategies, test plans, estimates and exit criteria
  • 3+ years of experience of testing within the Payments industry.

Nice to have:

  • Banking or broader financial services experience
  • ISTQB Foundation certification
  • Exposure to cloud technologies
