We’re Hiring Anti-Poaching Unit/Security Manager

Amakhala Game Reserve (AGR) is an 8900ha, Big 5, eco-tourism reserve in the Eastern Cape. AGR is committed to the conservation and preservation of free-roaming threatened species.

AGR is seeking to employ an experienced security/Anti-Poaching Unit manager to oversee its security and anti-poaching operations. The security/APU manager will work under the general manager and assume control of the established anti-poaching unit (APU) and be involved with its expansion and development. They would collaborate with NGO’s as well as recruit, when needed new APU team members to grow the team. In addition, the security manager will be responsible for:

• The day-to-day running of the APU, including rosters, patrol cycles and physical training
• Vehicle and foot based field patrols
• Human resources surrounding the APU, including staff discipline, recruitment and record keeping and submission of leave
• Maintaining equipment inventories and alerting GM to APU needs
• Collaborate with various stakeholders to ensure the security of AGR assets. This includes specific game species, neighbours, commercial lodges, land owners, reserves in district, other AGR staff, training providers (TacTrac), NPOs and donors (Chipembere Rhino Foundations, ARCC, GCF etc).

The candidate must be in possession of:

• RSA driver’s license
• PSIRA Grade B or higher
• SAPS firearm competency for business purposes (carbine, handgun and shotgun).
• APU/Security experience relevant to a game reserve
• Must be physically fit

Other desirable skills/qualifications include:

• Valid drone pilots licence or drone flying experience
• Drive and desire to protect threatened African game species
• Experience in planning and executing foot patrols in dangerous game areas
• Good communication and people skills to be able to liaise with staff, stakeholders and coordinate security operations
• Good time-management and organisational skills
