The successful candidate will specialize in Illustration and Printmaking and demonstrate excellence in studio-based teaching, an active research and\/or professional creative practice, and engagement with both traditional and contemporary visual communication methodologies. The appointee will contribute to undergraduate education, curriculum development, student mentorship, accreditation readiness, and institutional service within a collaborative and multicultural academic environment.<span class=\"br\"><\/span><b>Key Responsibilities<\/b><span class=\"br\"><\/span>Teaching and Curriculum Development: <\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Deliver undergraduate studio and lecture courses in Illustration and Printmaking, including traditional and digital illustration techniques, printmaking processes (e.g., screen printing, relief, intaglio, experimental print), and visual storytelling.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<ul>\n<li>Integrate contemporary tools and hybrid methodologies combining traditional print techniques with digital platforms.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<ul>\n<li>Develop and update course content in alignment with industry standards and accreditation requirements (e.g., NASAD).<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<ul>\n<li>Supervise senior capstone projects and guide students in professional portfolio development.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<ul>\n<li>Maintain rigorous studio critique practices and structured assessment methodologies.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p> Research, Scholarship, and Creative Activity: <\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Maintain an active research agenda and\/or professional creative practice in illustration, printmaking, or related visual arts disciplines.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<ul>\n<li>Publish in peer-reviewed journals and present at national and international conferences.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<ul>\n<li>Participate in exhibitions, juried shows, artist residencies, or professional collaborations.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<ul>\n<li>Engage in interdisciplinary research initiatives and pursue external funding where applicable.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<ul>\n<li>Contribute to enhancing the School\u2019s academic and professional reputation.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<ul>\n<li>Service and Institutional Engagement:<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<ul>\n<li>Engage actively in departmental, school, and university committees.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<ul>\n<li>Support program assessment, accreditation documentation, and quality assurance activities.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<ul>\n<li>Participate in student recruitment, outreach initiatives, exhibitions, competitions, and community engagement.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<ul>\n<li>Offer academic advising and mentorship to students.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<ul>\n<li>Foster a culture of diversity, equity, and inclusion within the academic community.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><b>Qualifications<\/b><span class=\"br\"><\/span><b>Required<\/b><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Academic Credentials:<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p> PhD in Graphic Design, Visual Communication, or a closely related field; or MFA in Graphic Design, Illustration, or Printmaking from an accredited institution. <\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Teaching Experience:<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p> Minimum of five years of university-level teaching experience (for senior ranks), with demonstrated excellence in studio-based instruction in illustration and\/or printmaking. <\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Professional Expertise:<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p> Strong portfolio evidencing professional and\/or research-based work in illustration and printmaking. <\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Technical Skills:<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p> Proficiency in traditional printmaking techniques and digital design software (Adobe Creative Cloud, illustration platforms, digital print workflows). <\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Research and Scholarship:<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p> Evidence of peer-reviewed publications, exhibitions, creative production, or recognized professional practice. <\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Communication Skills:<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p> Strong written and oral communication skills in English. <\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Cultural Competency:<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p> Experience working effectively in multicultural academic environments.<span class=\"br\"><\/span><b>Preferred<\/b><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Emerging and Hybrid Practices:<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p> Experience integrating digital fabrication, experimental print processes, or AI-assisted illustration tools. <\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Accreditation Experience:<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p> Familiarity with NASAD or similar international accreditation standards. <\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Industry Engagement:<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p> Professional practice experience in publishing, branding, editorial illustration, or print studios. <\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Capstone Supervision:<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p> Experience supervising senior thesis or graduation projects. <\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Interdisciplinary Collaboration:<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p> Record of collaborative research or externally funded creative initiatives.<span class=\"br\"><\/span>About American International University<span class=\"br\"><\/span>AIU is a new institution of higher education in Kuwait whose first student cohort was admitted in fall 2019.
