Job Description :<\/b><\/span>Job Title: Chief Electrician \u2013 Offshore Jackup Rig<\/span>Location: Offshore Qatar (North Field, Halul Island, or Contracted Rigs)
\n Employment Type: Rotational (e.g., 28 days on\/28 days off)
\n Reporting To: Rig Manager \/ OIM (Offshore Installation Manager)<\/span>Key Responsibilities<\/b><\/span>1. Electrical Systems Management<\/span>\u00b7 Oversee maintenance and troubleshooting of jackup rig electrical systems, including:<\/span>o Power generation & distribution (HV\/LV switchgear, transformers, circuit breakers)<\/span>o Drilling equipment (top drives, draw works, VFD systems)<\/span>o Jacking system controls (PLC-driven leg elevation systems)<\/span>o Emergency systems (UPS, battery banks, emergency lighting)<\/span>o HVAC & refrigeration (crew quarters, hazardous area compliance)<\/span>2. Compliance & Safety<\/span>\u00b7 Ensure compliance with Qatar Energy (QE) standards, IEC\/ATEX regulations, and Qatar Civil Defense (QCD) fire safety codes.<\/span>\u00b7 Conduct hazardous area inspections (Zone 1\/Zone 2 classifications for explosive atmospheres).<\/span>\u00b7 Implement Lockout-Tagout (LOTO) and Permit-to-Work (PTW) procedures.<\/span>3. Team Leadership<\/span>\u00b7 Supervise electricians, E&I technicians, and subcontractors.<\/span>\u00b7 Coordinate with onshore engineering teams for major repairs and spare parts procurement.<\/span>4. Emergency Response<\/span>\u00b7 Lead troubleshooting during blackouts, electrical fires, or equipment failures.<\/span>\u00b7 Ensure emergency generators and UPS systems are operational.<\/span>5. Documentation & Audits<\/span>\u00b7 Maintain logs for Qatar Ministry of Energy inspections and Class surveys (ABS\/DNV).<\/span>\u00b7 Report electrical incidents to QE (Qatar Energy) or Nakilat (if rig is chartered).<\/span>Requirements<\/b><\/span>Qualifications & Certifications<\/span>Mandatory:<\/b><\/span>\u00b7 Diploma\/Degree in Electrical Engineering (or equivalent trade certification).<\/span>\u00b7 10+ years offshore experience (5+ as Chief Electrician on jackup rigs).<\/span>\u00b7 ATEX\/IECEx Certification (for hazardous area electrical work).<\/span>\u00b7 COMPEX (Ex01-Ex04) (highly preferred for Gulf region).<\/span>\u00b7 Qatar-Specific Certs:<\/span>o QP Safety Passport<\/span>o Qatar Ministry of Public Health Medical Certificate<\/span>o BOSIET\/FOET with HUET (Offshore Survival & Helicopter Escape)<\/span>Preferred:<\/b><\/span>\u00b7 Siemens\/ABB PLC & VFD troubleshooting (critical for jacking systems).<\/span>\u00b7 HV Switching Certification (if handling 6.6kV\/11kV systems).<\/span>\u00b7 SAP\/CMMS experience (for maintenance tracking).<\/p>\n
